Tube is hollow, so it is stiff for what it weighs. It is measured by its outside size and its wall.
A 2 in square tube with a 1/8 in wall is two inches across the outside, an eighth of an inch thick.
What people cut it for
Frames, jigs, machine bases, railing posts, trailer rails, gates and camera rigs.
Most structural work wants 6061-T6. Railing and trim work is usually 6063.
