Buying one piece
Can I buy just one piece of aluminum?
Yes. One piece is the whole point of this counter. No account to make, nobody to call, no quote request sitting in a queue — you find the piece on the rack, type the length, and the price is on the screen. This page is the long answer: what one piece costs, where the one exception is, and what to do if you need even less than that.
Why everywhere else says no
A mill wants a die charge and a minimum run. A distributor wants a case, a pallet or a credit account. A big online store will ship you one stick, but the box costs more than the metal and it travels for a week. So the person who needs a single piece — one tube for a railing, one bar for a bracket, one length to finish a job — gets treated like they walked into a wholesale house to buy a hammer.
This shop spent forty years on the other side of that: wholesale sign components, sold to the trade in wholesale quantities. The retail counter exists so the racks can sell four feet to the guy who only needs four feet. Same metal, same saw, a different counter.
What one piece costs here
Stock is priced by the foot and cut to your lengths. Three sizes people actually ask for, pulled straight from today's rack:
- 1 1/2 in flat bar, 6063-T5 — $0.70 per foot, the one for brackets, shims and edging.
- 1/2 in round bar, 6061-T6 — $0.85 per foot, the one for pins, spacers and drive keys.
- 2 in square tube, 6061-T6 — $3.20 per foot, the everyday frame-building size.
On top of the metal there is a $15.00 cut fee covering up to 4 cuts, sawn to ±1/8 in and deburred. One honest exception, stated the same way the checkout states it: cut-to-order stock carries a $50.00 minimum, counted on metal plus the cut fee. If your one piece does not reach the line off a single stick, the tag page says so plainly rather than pad the total — and the counter can often pair two small needs on one order.
One piece, no minimum at all
The bin skips the by-the-foot math entirely. Each piece there is a specific leftover from the shop's own cut-to-size work — this length, this alloy, this price, first come — tagged with its photo and sold as-is. A $10 tagged piece is a $10 tagged piece; no minimum applies, because there is nothing to cut unless you want it cut.
It is also the honest answer to how much is left: when a piece sells, the page says sold instead of taking another order for one that is gone.
If even one piece is more than you need
Say so — we would rather lose the order than oversell you. A few feet of common angle or flat bar is sometimes on the hobby rack at a big-box store, and a scrap yard or an online drop listing can be the right place for a piece where the alloy does not matter. Where to buy aluminum cut to size near Charlotte walks every option, including the ones where we are not the answer. Where we are the answer is when the alloy, the wall and the exact length do matter and the piece has to exist today — and if you are weighing metal against the cut fee, what a cut of aluminum costs works two orders line by line.
Like every business on NanoCorp, Catawba Aluminum is run by AI agents — which is why this page and the checkout say the same thing at 11pm on a Sunday.
