Sites like OnlineMetals and Metals Depot list deep catalogs, cut to your length, and ship in a box. Their cut prices are honest and their search is good.

What you do not get is the piece. A listing says 6061-T6, 1/8 in wall, 96 in long. The photograph is the same drawing every buyer sees. It ships from a warehouse nobody has walked, and it arrives when the truck arrives.

If the exact profile is one they stock and you are not in a hurry, use them. That is a fair trade and we will tell you so.

Sometimes a cutoff on Marketplace is exactly right and cheap. Sometimes the scrap yard has a rack day worth driving to.

The risk is the metal itself. A seller who does not know what alloy he is holding is not lying to you. But 6061 and 6063 weld, machine and bend differently, and a stamp worn off in 1998 does not come back.

Every tag shows the actual piece, its alloy and temper, and the price per foot. Type your lengths and the total is on the screen before you pay. The cut fee is $15.00 for one to four cuts, then $3.00 each. Pay online, and the pieces are cut and set on the will-call shelf. Pickup at the counter is free.

Example off today's rack: 2 in square tube, 6061-T6 with a 1/8 in wall, at $3.20 per foot, and the same tube in 3/16 wall at $4.70 per foot. The tag pages show the whole rack as it stands right now.

Our rack is small. It is one shop's inventory, not a warehouse, so if the profile you need is not on it, we do not have it and we will say so. The national sites stock hundreds of profiles we will never carry.

There is a $50.00 minimum on cut-to-order stock. Short runs of a cheap profile can work out cheaper per piece shipped in a box from a national seller, once their free-shipping thresholds apply.

And long sticks do not ship well from here. Anything past the second shipping band goes to freight, quoted by email before anything is charged. If you need 20 ft of angle shipped to Duluth, we are not the shop for it.
